FLEMINGSBURG NAZARENE CHURCH LEADERS

Church officers are elected by the Church. The congregation's voting members are directed to elect officers who profess the experience of entire sanctification and whose lives bear public witness to the grace of God that calls us to a holy life; who are in harmony with the doctrines, polity, and practices of the Church of the Nazarene; and who support the local church faithfully in attendance and with tithes and offerings.

 

CHURCH BOARD MEMBERS

WAYNE FANNIN - TRUSTEE

PAUL SIMMONS - TRUSTEE

KAY SKAGGS- TRUSTEE

There shall be no fewer than three and no more than nine trustees. Duties of the trustees are:

  • To hold the title to church property and manage it as trustees of the local church, where the local church is not incorporated, or where the civil law requires it, or where for other reasons it is deemed best by the district superintendent or the District Advisory Board, subject to the guidance and the restrictions as set forth in the manual 102-4.4.
  • To give guidance to the development of the physical facilities and to financial planning, unless the church board has provided otherwise.
  • To give special attention, under the direction of the church board, to raising money for the support of the church and of the pastor, that he or she may be free from secular care and anxiety and may give full-time attention to the work of the ministry.
  • For faithfulness to their trust, the trustees shall be amenable to the local church. They shall report to the annual church meeting. In the interim of annual church meetings, they shall make reports to the church board of which they are a part.
  • A vacancy in the office o f trustee may be filled by the local church at a duly called church meeting.

DANNY CARPENTER - SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT

Duties and powers fo the Sunday School Superintendent are:

  • To have executive supervision of all Sunday School ministries in the local church.
  • To administer the Sunday School in keeping with the Sunday School Bylaws.
  • To promote programs of growth in enrollment, attendance, and leadership training.
  • To preside over the regular meetings of the Sunday School Ministries Board, or the Education Committee of the church board, and to lead the Sunday School Ministries Board in performing its duties.
  • To submit an annual budget for Sunday School ministries to the church board.
  • To make a monthly report to the church board and to submit a written report to the annual church meeting.

VIVIAN MEADE - STEWARD

There shall be no fewer than three or more than thirteen stewards. Duties of the stewards are:

  • To serve as a church growth committee, unless otherwise provided for, with the responsibilities of outreach, evangelism, and extension, including sponsoring new churches and church-type missions (NewStarts), with the pastor as ex-officio chairperson.
  • To provide assistance and support for the needy and distressed. A biblical role of lay leaders is that of ministering in areas of practical service (Acts 6:1-2, Romans 12: 6-8). Therefore stewards should offer their time and spiritual gifts in acts of service, administration, encouragement, mercy, visitation, and other ministries.
  • To serve, at the discretion of the church board, as the Evangelism and Church Membership Committee as outline in the manual 110-10.8.
  • To assist the pastor in organizing the church so that Christian service opportunities are available to all members. Special attention should be given to the development of ministries toward those of other cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in the immediate and nearby communities.
  • To serve as liaisons to community Christian action and service organizations.
  • To give assistance to the pastor in public worship and Christian nurture in the local church.
  • To provide the elements for the Lord's Supper, and when requested by the pastor, to assist in the distribution of the same.
  • For faithfulness in the discharge of their duties the stewards shall be amenable to the local church. They shall make a report to the church at the annual church meeting.
  • A vacancy in the office of steward may be filled by the local church at a duly called church meeting.

DEBORAH CRUMP- CHURCH SECRETARY

Duties of the secretary of the church board are:

  • To record correctly and preserve faithfully the minutes of all church meetings and meetings of the church board, and do whatever else may pertain to the office.
  • To present to the annual meeting of the church an annual report of the major activities of the local church, including statistics on membership
  • To see that official papers, records, and legal documents pertaining to the local church, including deeds, abstracts, insurance policies, loan documents, church membership rolls, historical records, church board minutes, and incorporation papers are held in trust in either fireproof or secure safes on the local church premises, or when feasible, they may be placed in safe deposit facilities in local banks or similar institutions. Access to such shall always be shared with the pastor and church treasurer, and care for such shall be delivered immediately to the church secretary's successor in office.
  • To be the secretary of all annual and special church meetings; and to be custodian of the minutes and other papers of such annual and special church meetings.
  • To certify in writing to the district superintendent the results of the vote from the calling of a pastor and the continuation of the church/pastoral relationship. Such certification shall be made within one week of the vote.
  • To send to the district superintendent a copy of the minutes of all church meetings and meetings of the church board within three days of such meetings when that local church is without a pastor.
  • To sign in conjunction with the pastor all conveyances of real estate, mortgages, releases of mortgages, contract, and other legal documents not otherwise provided for in the manual.

VELMA NEWSOME- CHURCH TREASURER

Duties of the treasurer of the church board are:

  • To receive all moneys not otherwise provided for, and disburse the same only on order of the church board.
  • To make monthly remittances of all district funds to the district treasurer, and of all general funds to the general treasurer, except as otherwise provided.
  • To keep a correct book record of all funds received and disbursed.
  • To present a detailed monthly financial report for distribution to the church board.
  • To present an annual financial report to the annual church meeting.
  • To deliver to the church board the complete treasurer's records at such time as the treasurer shall cease to hold the office.

CHRISTI CALLAHAN - NMI

Duties of the NMI President are:

  • To educate individuals and congregations as to the missionaries’ work in the field.
  • To pray for missionaries at home and abroad.
  • To work with the NYI President in the development of a missions emphasis for youth.
  • To assist in sending missionaries to the field, support missionaries in the field, equip them, and help provide for their retirement needs by raising funds for World Evangelism and special offerings such as Alabaster, Thanksgiving, World Mission Radio, etc.
  • To welcome missionaries home on furlough and invites them for deputation services.
  • To encourage the congregation to read the mission books.

Vacant - NYI

Duties of the NYI President are:

  • To chair the NYI Council in facilitating the development of youth ministry in the local church.
  • To work with the NMI President in the development of a missions emphasis for youth.
  • To perform those duties for youth Sunday School as assigned to all age-group directors.
  • To report monthly to the local church board and the annual meeting of the local church.
  • When a youth pastor is employed in a church, the pastor, in consultation with the church board and NYI Council, assigns the responsibility for NYI to the youth pastor. In that case, the youth pastor carries out some of the duties otherwise designated to the local NYI president. However, the importance of the NYI President remains in providing lay leadership, support, and representation for local youth ministry. The pastor, youth pastor, and NYI Council work together to define the roles and responsibilities of the two positions and how they work together for the benefit of the church's youth ministry. A youth pastor may not serve as the NYI President.

The Church board meets the second Sunday of every month at 4:45 p.m.

Responsible for planning and execution of all church sponsored social events - includes food preparation and setup/cleanup of facilities. Responsible for church financial matters; to include preparation of church budget and development of pastor financial package. Responsible for planning and handling all church support actions associated with deaths of church members and immediate families; to include planning and delivery of food to family members.   Responsible for preventative maintenance and minor repair of all church owned buildings and land; to include periodic cleanups of church, and lawn maintance.

Sunday School begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 10:50 a.m.

During morning worship a nursery is available for infants and children under 3 years old. Children's Church services are provided for ages 3 to 9. Volunteer workers are available.

Bro. Jimmy Jett holds Junior Church services for students in grades 4-6.

*The first Sunday of every month the adult Sunday School class takes a special offering for Community Care. This fund was started several years ago as a way to offer a 'one time' assistance to those in need in our community who are having financial difficulties due to illness, injury, loss of a loved one, loss of home, etc. Since May 2002 this fund has generated over $25,000 in assistance and more than 100 families have received help. Even during these difficult economic times the faithful continue to support the Community Care Fund.
